BIBLE: THE HISTORY OF SALVATION

Chapter Context

The importance and features of the Holy Bible are illustrated in this chapter. It aims at imparting the relevance of the Bible in our daily life. Also tries to create an interest in children to learn and use Bible with respect and awe.

Teacher's Guide

  1. Conviction

    - Bible is the Holy Book gifted by God to the mankind
    - The Bible presents the salvific activity of God

  2. Attitudes

    - Give thanks to God who speaks to us through the Bible
    - Treat the word of God with awe.
  3. Habit

    - I will read the bible daily with due respect and piety.

  4. Teaching aids

    Holy Bible, catechism text book, mass book, song book, story books, note book, biographies of saints etc.
  5. Presentation of the lesson

    This chapter can be presented in “what is this” manner.Teacher may distribute the teaching aids (Holy Bible, catechism text book, mass book, song book, story books etc)among the students. Make sure that everyone gets one or the other. Let everyone say out what they got and teacher writes down the same on the board. Then ask students which one ofLESSON 1Bible: The History of Salvation14 them is the most important and why. Most of them might say ‘Bible’, though the explanation they give might be imperfect. Here the teacher can interfere and guide them towards the chapter. And lead them to the awareness that how and why bible is the most important book.
  1. Let us sing:

    The song has been composed on the main theme of the chapter. The students can try singing it either solo or in a group. Teacher can help them if needed.

  2. Let us pray:

    Guide them to pray joining their hands and with due awe. The prayer can be lead either by individual or by group.

  3. Read the Word, narrate it

    Ask them to read Gen. 9:1-17 as the home work for the first day. Make quiz session based on the same passage on the following day. Points can be awarded for the right answers.

  4. Sample questions:

    1. Sign of God’s covenant- rainbow.
    2. With whom did God make the covenant? - Noah and his sons.
    3. In whose image was man created? - in God’s own image.

  5. Word of God for our guidance

    Students may be asked to write the given verse on a chart paper with sketch pen or color pencils. The same can be displayed in the class so that it draws the attention of the children and they learn the verse by heart.

  6. Let us do

    Give them simple exercises to do; if found difficult, teacher can help them.15

  7. My decision

    The decisions given are expected to turn out to be the habits of the students. Encourage them to follow it and have proper scrutiny to make sure that they follow the decisions.


  1. Do you know?

    Simple questions are asked to which students can give answers with the help of the text book. Points are awarded to those who give correct answers.

  2. Decorate the Bible:

    Proper instructions are given on the first day to keep the Bible in the class room well decorated. Encourage them to bring less expensive items for the same. Using the things brought by the students, on the second day, keep the Bible on the table decorated. Grant them opportunity to take Bible in hands, read it and kiss it with respect and awe.
