The Risen Jesus

Chapter Context

He is proving that He is the Son of God through His resurrection by defeating death. Jesus' resurrection is a reminder of death and the afterlife. The teachers should give the message to the children through the lesson that we who live as heavenly beings are united with God through death.

Teacher's Guide

  1. Conviction

    - Jesus rose on the third day.
    - Easter is the feast of Resurrection of Jesus.
    - On the 40th day of his resurrection, Jesus ascended to heaven.
    - Resurrected Son of God, Jesus, is our Lord and God.
    - We are all to reach heaven through Jesus.
  2. Attitude

    - We should believe and profess that resurrected Jesus is our Lord and God.
    - We should praise and worship Jesus who died and
    resurrected for us.
    - Leading a life pleasing to Jesus, we are to reach God the Father in heaven through Jesus.

  3. Habit

    - Live by doing good deeds.
    - By prayers, the divine praises and the Holy Mass we should praise and worship Jesus, Our Lord and God.

  4. Teaching aids

    Holy Bible, picture of resurrection, Chart with the prayer “Regina Coeli” written on it.

  5. Presentation of the lesson

    Let children share their experience on the rituals performed on Easter Sunday – Along with that present the event of the resurrection of Jesus. Present the resurrection in attractive and pleasant manner. (You can read out John: Chapter 20). Children should understand that the resurrection of Jesus proves Him to be the Son of God.

  2. Arrange the events in proper order.

    You can help by reading out the events to them.
  3. Repeat the words of Jesus writing in different colours

    You can help children to fill them.
  4. Find out the answers

    1. Easter.
    2. Mary Magdalene.
    3. “Peace be with you”.
    4. 40th day

  2. Role Play

    Make children enact the event of pious women going to the tomb, angels informing them about the resurrection of Jesus; Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene etc. Teacher should provide necessary guidance.
  3. Can you match the following?

    Jesus - Jewish leader
    Nicodemus - From Arimathea
    Mary Magdalene - Peace be with you
    Joseph - Jesus appeared first

  4. Let us introduce children to the prayer to be said from Easter Sunday.

    Queen of heaven, rejoice, Halleluiah
    For he whom you did merit to bear, Halleluiah
    Has risen as He said, Halleluiah
    Pray for us to God, Halleluiah
    Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Halleluiah
    For the Lord has risen indeed, Halleluiah

  5. Let us pray

    O God, who gave joy to the whole world through the Resurrection of Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, grant that we may obtain, through His Virgin Mother, Mary, the joys of everlasting life, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
