Jesus Who Died For Us

Chapter Context

The purpose of this lesson is to describe Jesus' suffering and death on the cross. The crucifixion of Jesus has saved us. This lesson gives us the message that we should not hurt Jesus by making a mistake and that we should forgive others as Jesus forgave.

Teacher's Guide

  1. Conviction

    - Pontius Pilate gave the judgement to crucify Jesus.
    - They crucified Jesus at Golgatha hill.
    - Even while dying on the cross, Jesus prayed for those who tortured him.
    - Jesus died on the cross for our salvation.
  2. Attitude

    - We should love Jesus who died on the cross for us.
    - We should forgive those who hurt us.
    - We should not blame others for mistakes that they have not done.

  3. Habit

    - We should not hurt Jesus by sin.
    - Do not hurt anyone purposely.
    - We should pray for those who hurt us.
    - We should be ready to sacrifice things we like for others.

  4. Teaching aids

    Pictures of the “Way of the cross”, picture of Christ with crown of thorns, Picture of Jesus on the cross, pictures of some assassinated leaders – Gandhiji, Lincoln, Charts (“Jesus, the Nazarene, King of Jews”, “Father, forgive them”), Holy Bible, Cross.

  5. Presentation of the lesson

    Introduce the national leaders who gave their lives for the country. They gave their lives for one nation only. Then present Jesus who gave his life to save the entire universe. The depth of Jesus’ suffering – Scourging, crown of thorns, carrying heavy cross, being nailed on the cross.Insult – Spitting on the face, crowning with thorns, being crucified with thieves, the words on top of the cross, the comments and teasing by soldiers and other people Let children know that Jesus suffered all this for us.
  1. Let us sing, Let us pray

    (Check the guidelines given in previous chapters)
  2. Complete the prayer of Jesus on the cross.

    Let children write in colours.
  3. Fill up the following

    You can help children to fill them.
  4. Find out the answers

    1. Jesus died on the cross for our salvation.
    2. Golgotha.
    3. “Father, forgive them”.

  3. Let us draw, colour and build.

    Let children draw the cross, the symbol of our salvation. Let them make crosses out of different articles (Should be done at home). Display the crosses they made in class.

    1. Why did the Jewish leaders get angry with Jesus?
    2. Who showed Jesus to the enemies?
    3. Who ordered Jesus to be crucified?
    4. How did the soldiers torture Jesus?
    5. Who were crucified on the left and right side of Jesus’ cross?
    6. What was written on top of Jesus’ cross?
    7. What do we celebrate on Good Friday?
    8. How should we behave with Jesus who died for us?
