Class 2 : GOD THE SAVIOUR

Jesus Who Multiplies The Loaves

Chapter Context

This text describes the event of Jesus feeding those who came to him with spiritual and physical food. Teachers should be careful to present this lesson in such a way as to inspire children to develop the good habit of sharing what we have with others and receiving blessings from Jesus, who knows all our needs.

Teacher's Guide

  1. Conviction

    - Jesus fed the hungry and tired people by multiplying bread and giving them.
    - Jesus provides food for our body and soul.
    - We receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament as food for our soul.
    - Jesus, the Son of God, instituted the Holy Eucharist to give us life.
  2. Attitude

    - We should always be close to Jesus who feeds our body and soul.
    - Along with having food required by the body, we should also receive the Holy Eucharist which is the food for our souls.
    - Like Jesus who shared bread with the hungry, we must share our gifts with others.

  3. Habit

    - We should seek help from Jesus in all our needs.
    - We should participate devotedly in the Holy Mass and worthily receive the Holy Eucharist.
    - We must be willing to share the gifts, God has given us, with others.
    - We should praise Jesus by repeating the ejaculation
“Thanks be to Jesus. Praise be to Jesus”.

  4. Teaching aids

Holy Bible, Picture of the group of people following Jesus, picture of Jesus multiplying the loaves and giving to the people, picture of mother feeding a child, Flash cards (2, 5,5000), Chart – “Holy Eucharist Bread of life” Picture of a child receiving communion.

  5. Presentation of the lesson

You can have a discussion with children on how they feel when they are hungry. To whom do you go when you are hungry? Who gives you food? Why do we have to eat food? How does mummy feel when you are hungry? Let children share their own views on these. Then lead them to the story of Jesus showing more compassion towards the hungry than any mother. Remember to use the equipments to make the presentation of the lesson more fruitful.
  1. Let us sing, Let us pray

(Check the guidelines given in previous chapters)
  2. Arrange the baskets in the order in which the events took

    place.
Give a chance to read once more the portion of the lesson related to the activity. Let them write the proper order in colours.
  3. Show the connections

Let the students explain the connection between the numbers and the events in their own words.
  4. Complete the picture and colour it

You can instruct the appropriate colours to be given.
  5. Find out the answers

    1. Jesus received from a boy the 5 loaves of bread and two fish, which he multiplied.
    2. Jesus satisfied 5000 people by the multiplication of bread.
    3. The Holy Eucharist is our bread of life.

  1. Let us sing and praise

    “Jeevande appame, divyakarunyame
    Ninne stuthikunnu njangal
    Atmavin bhojyame aatma sandhoshame
    Ninne pukalthunnu njangal”
Teacher and students should together repeat this song
several times in class. If possible, teacher and students should sing this song in church before the blessed sacrament.
  2. Let us continue the story

Let them present the incident of Jesus multiplying the loaves as a story. Encourage them to tell the story pleasantly in their own words. Let one student start the story. When teacher claps, the student stops the story after the sentence he was saying. The next student continues. Stops when teacher claps, next student continues. In this way, they together complete the story.
