Class 6 : PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCED JESUS

THE EMMAUS EXPERIENCE

Chapter Context

The risen Jesus appearing to the disciples on their way to Emmaus and revealing Himself to them is the Emmaus experience. He fulfilled His promise that He would be with us till the end of the world. We experience the presence of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. This fact is explained in this lesson. It will help one to experience closely the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

Teacher's Guide

  1. Conviction

    - There is a living presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
    - The Holy Mass is the power-centre in the life of a Christian.
    - The Holy Eucharist is the fulfillment of the revelation.

  2. Attitudes

    - We are obliged to accept Holy Qurbana as the power-centre of our life.
    - Through Holy Mass we become closer to Jesus.

  3. Habit

    - I will behave properly in the Church.
    - Whenever I participate in the Holy Mass, I will receive the Holy Communion worthily.


  4. Teaching aids

    Mass Book, the Encyclical on the Holy Mass, Pictures of Emmaus experience.
  5. Presentation of the lesson

    The lesson may be introduced by staging a scene based on the Emmaus experience. Compose the dialogue and ask the students to perform. Then read the relevant portion from the text book and explain the incident in detail. Make them repeat the scene. They would do it with more clarity. Then you may explain the lesson. Other activities:

    Share experience:

    Ask the students to speak about and write down their experience of God’s interference when they were distressed. Also the teacher may describe a similar experience in her/his own life.

    Holy sayings:

    The children may be asked to collect what the saints have said about Holy Qurbana. Let them write that in their diary. Also ask them to make a chart on those saintly words.



    Let us do:

    The teacher shall help the students to locate what they are required to write down. Also give them books to read and find out.


  1. Let us sing:

    Ask the students to sing songs which says that the Holy Qurbana is a banquet.
  2. Let us share:

    Ask the students to share the memories of their First Holy Communion.
  3. Quiz:

    Conduct a quiz using objective questions about the Holy Qurbana. Congratulate and reward the winning team.
